The Salina School District has become aware of a number of comments on social media regarding the presence of a gun at school. This statement is intended to address these comments.
The District takes the safety of its students very seriously and does everything it can to provide a safe learning environment.  The District recently learned of allegations that a student brought a gun to school back in September of 2015.  There are no allegations, nor proof, that a gun was brought to school at any other time. In addition, there are also no allegations, nor proof, that the gun was used to threaten anyone or was brought to school with the intent to harm anyone. The student in question is not currently attending the District and it is unknown if and when he may attend school at the District again. If and when the student attempts to attend school at the District, the District will at that time determine what actions and placement options are appropriate.  The District is currently cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of this matter and cannot comment further because of the ongoing investigation and because of state and federal privacy laws. If any member of the public has any information about this incident, they are asked to contact the District at (918)434-5348 and/or the Salina Police Department at (918)434-5780.
